A fearless woman has dubbed herself the real life ‘Iron Woman’ as she attempts to break her FOURTH world record.
After becoming the first woman on record to travel all countries in the world in 2017, Cassie De Pecol, 29, is now aiming to complete the most Ironman 70.3 Triathlons around the world.
The brutal challenges involve a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run back to back which require maximum fitness and durability to enter – something Cassie has focused entirely on training for in the past year.
Cassie, from California, US, is currently in the state after already completing the first Ironman 70.3 Triathlon of the year in South Africa, and is set to jet off to Geelong, Australia for the next event next weekend.
Cassie, who is also CEO and founder of her non-profit, ‘Her International’, said: “In order to beat the previous record holders, I must complete more than 24 ‘Ironman 70.3’ races total in one calendar year.
“Since the age of 16, I’ve been racing triathlon and ever since, I’ve been challenging myself with sprints, Olympic, half and full Ironman distance races, but even still, I felt a void in that I wasn’t pushing myself enough.
“I’m not in it to win it, but I have always had a yearning to want to break records in the tri-space.
“There seemed like no better way to do it than to challenge these two particular records which focus on one of the most challenging triathlon races out there.
“I don’t feel like I’m living unless I’m pushing my limits, so you’ll likely never see me stop breaking records and shattering that glass ceiling in travel, sport and exploration.”
Cassie first rose to fame after appearing on American reality show ‘Naked and Afraid’ – a TV programme profiling how to survive in extreme conditions – in this case the Panamanian wilderness.
After completing the show, she decided to continue her childhood dream of travelling to every country in the world – despite being detained in Grenada for unusual travel plans, and having to travel in an armoured vehicle in war-torn Somalia.
Her thirst for adventure appears far from over as Cassie looks to chase more records, not being content with the two records she holds already.
Completing the Ironman challenge will be her third and fourth records, as she will complete the most Ironman 70.3 Challenges, and is the first female to complete the task in each country.
It’s not the only thing Cassie has got on the go, as she was also accepted for Virgin Atlantic’s space programme, and is preparing by working towards her pilot’s license.
She has even created her own app titled, “World Fitness by Cassie”, which she claims encompasses 126 workout which require no gym, which was released yesterday [SUN] on iPhone.
Cassie also receives sponsorship from a variety of online social media campaigns with some of her key supporters including Sun In, Ultra Swim, Blue Star Ointment, Specialized, Glamping Hub, and Training Peaks.
She said: “At the forefront of promotion for this event will be my organisation called Her International, which promotes women’s rights, sustainability and mental health being pivotal to the campaign.
“It’s near to impossible to achieve big things without the investment of companies and individuals to help you get there, whether that be in the form of product, services or cash.”
