These kayakers were stunned to have an incredibly close encounter with two killer whales while out on the water.

Photography guide Steven Rose, 62, filmed the amazing scenes in the Johnstone Strait, south of Telegraph Cove in Vancouver Island, British Colombia, earlier this year.

Steven, 62, from Toronto, was kayaking with his daughter when the majestic orcas – which were hunting salmon – swam under their vessels.

The guide of 12 years said: “The two orcas were coming towards my daughter, they passed under first hers and then my kayak.

“They were well aware of where we were – as long as you don’t make loud noises, they will come very close.

“They came up beside me, looked at me and called while swimming even closer.

“The first time they came close to me I worried they might tip you, but after 11 years of kayaking with them I have begun to relax and enjoy the experience.

“I once had one come so close when it blew out it covered me in water.”
