An obese mum looks ten years younger after losing five stone for her 40th birthday celebrations.

Vicki Smith, 39, from Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, was fed up of feeling frumpy and after her weight ballooned to 18 stone, she decided to ditch the sugary snacks once and for all.

Vicki’s weightloss was spurred on by her upcoming 40th birthday – there was no way she’d be able to party the night away or find herself a pretty frock while being overweight.

The occupational therapist assistant has since dropped EIGHT dress sizes after losing over five stone in weight.

And now, after two decades of being obese, Vicki is finally happy with her appearance, with most strangers shocked by the fact she’s nearly 40.

Vicki added: “I didn’t want to be fat at forty, I was tired of feeling breathless and unwell all the time.

“I’d started gaining weight in my early twenties and it continued for two decades before I realised I needed to change my ways.

“I would eat bags of chocolate and flapjacks instead of meals.

“When I had my daughter, Lilly, four years ago, I used being a busy mum as an excuse to eat all the wrong things.

“I felt as though I was a thin person trapped in a fat person’s body.

“I used avoid any situations where I thought I could be left embarrassed, such as turnstiles at football games or theme parks.

“But I’m so proud of myself and my new body, I joined Slimming World back in August and I’ve managed to lose five stone since.

“I’m now just over 12 stone and can wear size eight tops and size 12 bottoms, I feel like a new woman.

“No one can believe I’m almost 40, whereas before I looked and felt frumpy.

“I’ve also fell back in love with fashion and can buy clothes from whatever shop I like, it’s amazing.”

Vicki, who will be celebrating her 40th birthday in September, is regularly told how great she looks since dropping five stone.

She added: “I now feel confident when people look at me as I feel it is for positive reasons rather than just staring because of my weight.

“I’ve never had any self-confidence but now I finally have that back just in time for hitting my 40th birthday.

“I still want to lose another 9lbs before I’ve hit my goal weight but I have five months before I officially turn 40.

“When I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror now I can barely believe it’s me.”

Vicki’s believes her weight gain was due to the amount of sugary snacks and fast food she was eating.

She said: “I would eat a flapjack for breakfast and then bags of crisps, fizzy drinks and packets of biscuits inbetween meals.

“It’s fine to have a cheat meal every so often as we all need treats but I was eating exactly what I wanted every single day.

“I feel so much healthier now, I don’t get breathless, I’m not self-conscious and the best thing of all is that I’m a good role model to Lilly.

Vicki’s husband, Mark, 43, has supported her throughout her transition and the couple are now looking forward to the future.

She added: “I wouldn’t have led a long and happy life if I had continued to gain weight, I was already so unwell.

“I’m so excited for the future now, holidays, family days out and enjoying my 40th birthday without worrying about my figure.

“I used to hate the summer as I’d always get too hot but now I can’t wait.

“I’m hoping to go on a spa break for my birthday and that’s something I never would have done before.”
