A dad has lost ten stone after becoming sick of being confused for James Corden in public.
When he tipped the scales at 24 stone, Nicholas Broome, 34, looked the spitting image of national treasure and TV favourite James Corden in his role as Smithy in Gavin and Stacey.
The dad-of-two from Birmingham has lost a life changing ten stone and shifted an impressive 14 inches off his waist size after Corden comparisons were ruining his confidence.
Nicholas said: “At first the James Corden comparisons were quite light-hearted with my work colleagues calling me Smithy which was funny.
“But when I was out at the pub it would start to get a bit nasty with comments about my size, because I looked like a celebrity they thought it was okay to be rude and insulting.
“When I was on a plane on the way back from Miami I could hear a lot of people say to each other, ‘look at that fat ******, he looks like James Corden which was really nasty.”
Nicholas got the final push to do something about his Smithy-like looks when his wife gave birth to twins who he was determined to set a good example for.
Now just 14 stone, Nicholas can more often than not walk out and about without being sniggered at and stopped for selfies by people confusing him for the Carpool Karaoke host.
Nicholas said: “Being that size anyway really affected my confidence but what didn’t help was people saying at least James Corden has made a fortune, what’ve you got to show for it?
“I really like James Corden, I think he’s a great celebrity and really funny actor but I had to do something about my weight before my kids grew up.
“As a child I was active and was always playing football but when my Dad died in a work accident and my Mum sooner after died from Cancer, I turned to food in my depression.
“Everyone who knows me knew how much junk food was a part of my life, I would spend £30 at McDonald’s at least twice a week.
“I started getting high blood pressure and other effects from my size and the doctor was saying it could have serious effects on my health.”
The James Corden look-alike hated having his photo taken on his wedding day with wife, Katie in 2009 and banned mates from photos of him on their big day online.
Nicholas said: “I’ve only allowed two photos of me on our wedding day to be on show in the house and you can hardly see them in either of them.”
As soon as he knew his twins were on the way over two years ago, Nicholas hit the gym and hard with the rigorous Man vs Fat weight loss regime.
Nicholas said: “I didn’t want to be a fat dad and because I was giving up my job to look after them at home due to the cost of child care, I wanted to make sure I could be active with them.
Nicholas achieved his staggering weight-loss by hitting the gym three times a week and cutting out carbohydrates and foods with added sugar from his diet.
Meals such as tuna salads and steamed vegetables with fish in place of McDonald’s has transformed Nicholas on both the outside and in.
The former delivery driver is now gearing up for the Great Birmingham Run which he hopes will set a healthy example to his two-year-old twins, Emily and Edward.
