A sea turtle has been saved from poachers after being rescued and brought to a group of environmentalists.
Taken on the 14th of October 2018, the sea turtle was captured by poachers but saved and brought to Kids Beach Garden, Lekki, a city inside Lagos, Nigeria.
The saviour was 30 year old Environmentalist and Legal Practitioner, Doyinsola Ogunye.
Doyinsola said “This Olive Ridley Sea Turtle had been poached and was brought to the Kids Beach Garden after being rescued by a group of unknown good people.
“They had no idea what to do with it so they brought it to me and my team.”
An issue that arose during the turtles release came in the form of a number of disgruntled onlookers.
Doyinsola said: “While we were trying to release the turtle, most of the locals were a bit disgruntled because they wanted it as meat.
“I had to be assertive with them and explaining why we should release the poor animal that only came to nest.”
Doyinsola added that it was a bittersweet victory, he was happy they managed to rescue the animal, but sad at what it had to go through in order to be released.
