Shocking dashcam footage has captured the moment a ‘fast and furious’ BMW driver swerved wildly through rush hour traffic and raced along the hard shoulder after undertaking a van.
Stunned motorist Gary Jackson, 43, captured the video showing the black car speed past him, dash in front and undercut a white van leaving a trail of dust on the A1 near Doncaster.
In the shocking footage, the BMW enters the hard shoulder and swerves, slamming on the brakes causing a white van to also swerve.
Gary, who captured the incident on the A1 northbound between J37 and J38 at 5pm on Monday while in his c class Mercedes, said he was left shaken by it warning it could have ‘ended in disaster’.
Gary, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said: “It shook me up – the speed they were travelling in such busy conditions.
“One wrong move could have been a disaster at those speeds and with such a big powerful car.
“I got into the left lane because my junction was coming up then I caught a flash of light in my rear view mirror and noticed the black BMW weaving in between cars in the left and right lane.
“A blue van was to the right of me just passing me as I saw the BMW flying up behind me.
“I thought it was going to go into the back of me but it swung to the right behind the van then immediately to the left – to avoid going into the back of the van.
“You can see I move slightly to the left as he came flying up behind me.
“It all happened so quick. I was doing about 60mph and I’d say the BMW was in excess of 80mph.”
The dad of two said there’s always a lot of traffic on that stretch with cars often at a standstill.
Payroll officer Gary said: “Traffic is always very busy on this stretch from J35 right up until the M62 turn off.
“It often comes to a standstill where the slip roads are with trsaffic merging then gets going again.
“Both lanes tend to yoyo back and forth for a few miles with no lane being busier than the other.
“As he went into the hard shoulder he slightly hit the grass bringing dust and the car wobbled a bit.
“I was expecting to see that he’d crashed farther up. I knew the traffic was very heavy ahead.
“I even kept looking to see if he was being chased by police but couldn’t see any before I came off at my junction.
“It’s a miracle he didn’t crash.”
