John, who proudly wears a red England jumper with the Union flag on, has had his adventures shared with over 2,500 followers on Instagram and Travis is eyeing up the bear’s homecoming.

Travis said: “The idea to start taking travel pictures of him came from the movie Amilie where a girl took travel pictures of a garden gnome to entice her father to travel.

“We have no kids to take pictures of and John is much easier to carry around than a garden gnome so he became our mascot.

“Vacation pictures are so much more fun when there is a teddy bear narrating the trip.”

Travis’ wife, Maria found John in a second-hand shop in 2010 and the Canadian couple chose to name him after John Lennon as a tribute to his British roots.

What is not shared online is John’s frequent appearances in work video conferences which Travis says helps to liven up otherwise boring meetings.

John is often be joined on his travels by fellow cuddly toys, Simon the Lion and Maurice the Monkey who also both came from the same second-hand store in later years.

“My favourite trip with John was to the Canadian Rocky Mountains in 2015 where we took him on a relaxing 1200 km train ride from Edmonton to Vancouver.

“The journey lasted 24 hours and there was never a dull moment in the entire trip. John averaged nearly one photo per kilometre on that trip.

“Last summer I was at a car show that had a hashtag to help promote it, so I created the account JohnTheTravelingBear since he was in every picture from the show.

“After only a month online, John found his twin brother “Little Ben” who is living in Berlin.
“Quite a few of my real life friends follow John on Instagram and he is a constant source of amusement for them. Everyone else on Instagram only know us as John’s ‘Mum and Dad’.”

“We hope to take John ‘home’ to visit London next year”.
