A ‘lazy’ dog owner was caught on camera driving his car along a grass verge ‘at 10mph’ while his tiny white dog hurriedly trotted alongside it.
The bizarre moment was filmed by Andy Redfern who watched open-mouthed as the man cruised by his house with the dog in tow last Sunday afternoon.
In the clip the dog, believed to be either a Bichon Frise or a Shih Tzu, can be seen briskly walking alongside its owner’s car as he held the lead through the open door.
The poor pooch can be seen briefly pausing to sniff the ground on two occasions but is dragged along as the car continues driving along Fender Way in Prenton, the Wirral.
In the footage, passers-by can be heard laughing at the peculiar spectacle and shouting ‘he does it every day’ while one disapproving child shouts ‘that’s dangerous’.
Dad-of-four Andy said it was the first time he’d seen the driver ‘walk’ the pooch like this, but said the dog seemed ‘happy’ and unfazed by it.
Full-time carer Andy, 38, said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve lived here for six years.
“I started filming it straight away as I had my phone on me while I was outside having a smoke.
“I saw the car mount the kerb and open the door and that’s when I saw the bloke, who I’d say was in his 50s, let the dog out.
“It was a little fluffy thing, either a Bichon Frise or a Shih Tzu, it was only small.
“He was going at about 10 mph. The dog looked like it wasn’t the first time he’d been walked like that, he looked like he was quite comfortable trotting along.
“He seemed happy enough and looked like he’d done it before but it was bizarre seeing it happen.
“At one point the dog did stop but the car didn’t so he had to carry on.
“To be honest I just thought it was funny, I wasn’t concerned for the dog as it didn’t look like it was going too fast. It was funny more than anything.”
Andy said: “You don’t know the circumstances, the man might not be in a position to take the dog for a walk, either that or he’s lazy.”
