A shocked motorist caught the moment a group of teens almost caused a pile up on a busy motorway as they appeared to play a dangerous game of chicken with cars whizzing by at 60mph.
Dash cam footage shows a group of five lads, believed to be around 18 years old, leaning over into the outside lane of the M50 in Dublin while trying to find a gap to race across three lanes.
Their actions caused one car to slam hard on its brakes from 60mph as it anticipated the group may run into the road in between Junction 12 at Firhouse and 13 at Dundrum, almost causing a high-speed pile-up.
Mark Clinch, 24, spotted the group last Friday and even claims that after he drove past they ran out behind him and came to a stop in the middle lane.
According to Mark, had one of the lads taken just one more step into the fast lane there is no way he would have been able to stop in time.
Mark from Dublin, Ireland, said: “I didn’t notice them at first. I just wondered why the car in front of me was braking so harshly.
“The last thing you expect to see on a motorway is a group of lads trying to cross so it was just unexpected. It scared the life out of me.
“They were leaning into the road so I genuinely thought they were going to run out in front of me and there wasn’t enough room for me to stop.
“They ran out behind me and stopped in the lane for a gap. The car behind me swerved and I think they were a bit shook up.
“It is the main motorway in Dublin so they were lucky it was after rush hour because they would have been in even more danger then.
“It could’ve caused a huge pile up. It isn’t just dangerous for themselves, it’s dangerous for the other drivers too.
“What worries me is that they looked old enough to know that you don’t walk on a motorway.
“They also would’ve needed to cross from the other side so they had already risked lives once.”
The AutoCAD Engineer believes that the group had come from an event that was being held nearby but didn’t think they had been drinking.
Mark said: “There was something going on near the motorway so I just presumed they were going to that or trying to find a back door in.
“I did look to see if they had drinks in their hands but they didn’t.
“To me they looked sober which is even more worrying that they still thought this was okay.”
