This eerie video shows thousands of hairy worms slowly making their way in unison up an entire tree, reaching the tips of its highest branches.
Manohar Lal captured the confusing footage in the rural area of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, on May 6.
A gigantic line of hairy blanket worms are seen making their way up the 40-foot tree, slowly moving from the base to the crown while remaining tightly compact, the line a few worms wide.
This species of insect is not known to be venomous; however, if the hairs come in contact with human skin, it can leave a painful itch that can spread over the body.
Manohar said: “I was surprised to see so many worms walking together and covering the tree.
“This was very strange behavior for worms to display, and quite uncomfortable to witness.
“The worms are not known to be venomous, though if their hairs get onto your skin, you will be left with a very painful itch all over your body.
“Since posting it online, it has become a very popular video.”
