Animals Video

By Ben Walley

A diver has been filmed swimming with a group of manta rays in a mesmerising video clip.

William Drumm, 32, from Denver, Colorado, filmed the footage from October to April this year.

The video shows the diver gliding underwater with the manta rays in full view.

William, a photographer and filmmaker, said: “The last two years I have travelled to the Socorro Island, hoping to swim with and film the world’s largest manta rays.

“This is one of the giant oceanic manta rays of the Socorro Islands.

“These huge fish love interacting with scuba divers and feeling divers bubbles run up again their stomachs.

“They use their large cephalic fins on their mouth to funnel in the small plankton that they feed on.

“The giant manta rays of Socorro are so interested in divers it’s unreal, they seek out interactions, they love getting divers to blow bubbles on their tummies, and seem to hold an intelligence seldom associated with fish.”
