This driving instructor appears to need less screen time.
The driver of an instructor’s car was caught staring at his mobile phone while sat in traffic on the Eltham Road in London.
Cyclist CBL spotted the car drifting into the cycle lane and presumed a nervous learner was behind the wheel.
Instead he was shocked to see a driver behind a wheel with his screen blaring brightly.
CBL doubled back to make sure he was correct and confront the driver.
He says he has since been contacted by the driver’s firm to say they are investigating the incident.
CBL said: “When I saw it I was in disbelief at the audacity of a driving instructor so flagrantly breaking the law.
“I could see the bright screen as I first rode past the car but I can only assume he was using it before that too as his driving was poor beforehand.
“Initially I thought it was a learner driver on a lesson as he was drifting in and out of the cycle lane. That’s why I held back from passing as until the traffic slowed down.
“When I saw the screen on the driver side I was shocked. I did a double take.
“I’m used to seeing drivers using their mobile phones at the wheel. It’s far too common. But I couldn’t resist going back and taking a second look at a driving instructor doing it.
“He didn’t respond to my plea when I knocked on the window, and although you can’t see it on camera, he looked pretty sheepish. He was probably quite embarrassed at being caught.
“The manager of the company actually did a great job at reaching out to me for more details on the incident.
“He made it very clear he takes these things seriously and takes great pride in the high standards he expects of instructors.
“I’m confident and pleased that’s it’s being dealt with.”
