Crazy Christmas-lovers have battled it out in this year’s WORLD SANTA CLAUS CHAMPIONSHIPS to find out who is the JINGLE BEST.
From Christmas tree decorating, reindeer rodeo, chimney climbing, a rope-pulling event and an e-snowmobile rally, it’s clear that the winners wouldn’t have a ‘belly like a bowl full of jelly’.
Each budding bringing of cheer, hoped their team of four would be victorious after the festive challenges – a replication of what the real Father Christmas contends with.
This year’s ClauWau saw 108 HO-HO-HOPEFUL Santa Claus participants split into 27 teams and take on the tough cookie tasks.
After five disciplines, Swiss team Santo Speed candy caned the others, to be announced winners after demonstrating they had superb Santa skills.
This was the 17th anniversary of the event that took place last Sunday at the winter resort Samnaun, in Engadin Valley, Switzerland.
Marcel Rochow, from the Samnaun resort, said: “The Santa Claus’ world championship was established in 2001, this year we had the 17th edition of the ClauWau,
“Everyone likes the Santa Claus and has good memories of this character.
“The ClauWau offers the opportunity to slip into the role of the Santa Claus and to compete in a funny competition together with friends and like-minded people
“The most challenging disipline, of course is the chimney climb, where every Santa has to climb a chimney and take a present with him, just as it is for a real Santa Claus
“Each team is made out of 4 team-members, so altogether we had 108 Santas participating in the ClauWau 2017
“Even though the teams during the disciplines are competitors, it is always nice to see how comradely everyone deals with each other and how the various Santas on the occasion form one great Santa-community.”
The World Championship of Santa Clauses opens up the five-month winter season of ski resort Samnaun.
