A woman who ordered a Marilyn Monroe cake for her sister-in-law’s birthday didn’t quite get the outcome she was looking for when she was left with a complete baking disaster.
Erin Hughes, 26, from Glasgow ordered the Marilyn Monroe themed cake along with her mother-in-law, Lynn, for her sister-in-law, Amanda’s 30th Birthday, but were left speechless by the results from the ‘professional baker’.
The pair were left running to the supermarket at the last minute to buy a replacement for the birthday gathering after the baker had badly attempted to recreate a Marilyn Monroe portrait.
Erin said: “My mother-in-law ordered the cake for my sister-in-law’s 30th birthday.
“She had FaceTimed me to show me the cake, I was speechless.
“I had baked a few cakes myself for family members but knew myself I wouldn’t be able to make a Marilyn Monroe cake so decided it would be best to go with a ‘professional baker’.
“When my mother in law showed me the cake she said my daughter, who was five at the time, could have done a better job.
“We were really disappointed with it, I had put a picture of the cake on Facebook for a laugh and asked my Facebook friends to guess who, none of them could guess!”
Erin’s mother-in-law, Lynn, paid £45 for the cake but had to make a quick dash to the local supermarket to buy a second cake, costing another £20.
Erin said: “We were all going out for a family meal and had to run out and buy another cake to take to the restaurant with us because the Marilyn cake had turned out so badly.
“None of us even ate the Marilyn Monroe cake, it got sliced up and my father-in-law took it into work and gave it out to all the workmen.

“My sister-in-law did eventually get to see the cake, she couldn’t believe it.”
