It’s beneath you! A whale shark dives under a boat as eager spectators try to spot it in the water.
The photograph, which was taken at South West Pinnacle in Thailand, shows the group of people excitedly getting a perfect view of the whaleshark, that is swimming just underneath them.
Alongside the massive 8 foot whale, there is also a colony of fish joining the mammal on its journey. The snap was taken by Patrick Steele on 12 October.
Patrick, 29, said: “I only managed to see the smaller of the two whale sharks at the dive site that morning, but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.
“The amazingly inquisitive 2.5 metre whale shark was obsessed with me and kept on following me and gently playing with my fins as I tried to swim away.
“I have been trying to get this shot for about two years now, but the waves are usually too rough or it’s the wrong dive boat.
“When I saw the whale swim near the boat I knew it was the best chance I had ever had to get the shot, so I quickly adjusted my strobes and started shooting.
“It was one of the most amazing moments of my life. Having this huge animal decide to come and check me out and to not feel threatened in the slightest is such an overwhelming feeling.
“I was laughing on the whole swim back to the boat. I think it shows that sharks are not anywhere near as dangerous as they are led to believe – especially whale sharks.”
