This is the hair-raising moment a kitesurfer comes dangerously close to a shark on a beach in Australia.
Pierre Olivier, a veteran kite surfer, was out on the Botany Bay beach in Sydney when he came across a shark as he set on his surfing gear.
Thinking it was only a one metre long shark, an unassuming Pierre continued kite-surfing, at one point trying to get as close to the shark as possible.
However, Pierre was shocked to find out that the shark was almost three metres long.
Pierre’s friend Adam Cartmer, who shot the video said: “I heard a few people say that it was a shark so I ran over to check it out.
“I was concerned for my mates who didn’t know the shark was so close, so I was running along and calling them into shore.”
Adam said some people were really excited to see the shark but many were “absolutely freaking out saying that they’ll never swim on the beach again.”
“After we stopped filming, the shark went straight out into deep waters and at least 30 kite surfers simply returned to kite surfing until sunset.”
