This is the moment an arrogant driver tried to show off after being caught out ‘taking a selfie’ on the motorway – but became so distracted he failed to spot he bombed through a red light.

Brett Mullineaux claims he spotted the ‘brain dead’ tradesman playing with his phone on the M62 driving at 45 miles per hour near Oldham, Greater Manchester, last month.

Footage shows the driver holding out the mobile phone with his right hand as he appears to grin into the camera for a ‘selfie’ before realising that he has been spotted by Brett.

Rather than being embarrassed, the dad-of-two was stunned to then see the driver showing off about getting caught and even giving a sarcastic thumbs up as they came off the motorway together.

However as they approached the lights, shocking headcam footage shows the motorist so fixated on mocking Brett that he fails to see the lights are on red and ploughs through them.

Brett said: “It never ceases to amaze me.

“Some people are brain dead and he probably wasn’t even thinking at all. That’s the problem.

“He even gave me a thumbs up. He was actually proud of it when he caught me filming him. It’s just so annoying when drivers do this.

“He just bombed through the red light without looking and there could easily have been somebody coming in the opposite direction. Somebody could have been killed.”

Professional welder Brett claims he often catches unsuspecting commuters apparently up to no good.

Brett said: “He was doing something like 45 miles per hour. If I would have died I suppose I wouldn’t have been here to mind, but I have a wife and kids to think about.

“He just appeared there. I first caught sight of him in the mirrors of his truck. He was clearly playing with his phone because I could see into the car so I overtook, crossing over from the middle lane.

“He was holding his phone up to take a selfie or something. Then he gave me the thumbs up and I made a gesture at him.

“What gets me is they think you’re in the wrong and they give you grief. What if he knocked me off the bike?

“The man was just driving down the motorway without a clue. He’s senseless, completely braindead.

“Like I always say, it’s six points on your licence and a £200 fine. It’s just not worth it.

“I see people doing all sorts driving down the motorway but this one really was unbelievable.

“I just really don’t understand people because it’s complete and utter stupidity.

“On top of that, he was completely shameless as well.

“But when I pulled beside him he realised he was caught on camera. Hopefully, he’ll see himself in the papers and on the news and he’ll think twice next time.

“I never want people to lose their jobs, get them in trouble or drop them in it, but I just want to raise awareness about dangerous driving.”
