Hide and beak! It’s impossible to see this owl, until it turns its head.
Camouflaging perfectly into the tree that it is sitting on, when it is facing towards the tree the owl is hardly visible.
That is until it turns its head, and opens its bright white eyes.
These pictures were taken in Meaques Retamaraes, in Madrid, by Hernan Bua.
Hernan said: “This owl is a scops owl, otherwise known as a otus scops.
“It can be seen camouflaging into a pinus sylvestris tree.
“I spotted him during a workshop about raptor birds.
“This owl was free for a time to see how it is camouflaged.”
