This is the hilarious moment a competitive husband attempted to secretly play his wife’s crystal singing bowl – only to smash it into pieces.

The side-splitting video shows Jim Barrett, 52, playing the bowl while staring straight into the camera, pulling faces in amazement as he, at first, creates a convincing sound using the instrument.

Jim’s face, however, soon turns to shock, as one forceful swirl on the delicate bowl causes it to shatter – and for Jim to hastily switch off the recording device as he looks to clean up the mess he’s made.

The video was taken on July 2, 2017, and Jim said he initially decided to tackle the instrument because his wife, Mary, had made playing it look so easy in the past.

Competitive Jim, from Treasure Island, Florida, USA, said: “One day, after a round of golf, I came home and the bowl was there staring at me, daring me to make it sing.

“I thought, now is my chance; I’ll get this thing going; it can’t be that hard.

“So I gonged it, right in the middle.

“Ran the wand around the inside and bam – I was making singing bowl music.”

Knowing that his wife would never believe in his musical talents without evidence, Jim decided to film his successful playing of the instrument.

As the video shows, though, it did not take long for everything to go horribly wrong, and for Jim to owe his wife a new bowl – and vacuum cleaner.

Jim said: “I had to get it on camera because I knew I wouldn’t be able to repeat it when my wife came home.

“The rest, as they say, is history.

“I owe her one new bowl and probably a vacuum cleaner as the one I used to clean it up makes more noise now than the bowl did.

“I think I’ll stick to golf.”
