A seal looks to have tickled by something funny as it was spotted hilariously rolling around in barrels of laughter.
Designer and photographer Ingo Gerlach, 64, from Betzdorf, Germany watched the seal cracking up on the Isle of Helgoland in the North Sea about 300 miles north of his hometown.
Ingo embarked on a five day trip to the island off the German north coast to photograph seabirds and the seals but was not expecting such a well-spirited welcome.
Ingo said: “The nature is so magnificent and unique to Helgoland, the seals are so funny but remain aggressive.
“It looks like it’s laughing but the seal is actually very tired and can be seen cleaning himself.
“The seals are very funny, but also very dangerous because they’re predators. I’ve published photos from all over the world since 1976 and my favourites are of wildlife and animal action.”
