A dad revealed the secret world of robins when he discovered a nest in his own hedge and caught dazzlingly colourful images of the bird looking right at him as she fed her open-mouthed chicks.
Andrew Fusek Peters, 51, says his son Asa, 16, spotted the heather flowers rustling outside their Lydbury North, Shrops, home and the duo discovered it was in fact a nest with four young chicks in.
Avid photographer Andrew couldn’t resist the opportunity so set up his camera in a bid to capture the mother’s comings and goings but was blown away when she landed on his tripod.
His most intimate photos show the mother’s red face staring intently at the camera with a mouthful of worms, while the bright yellow open beaks of the chicks clamour around her, nestled in the vibrant green of the shrubbery.
Andrew said: “It’s amazing to see this hidden life all happening on our doorstep right in front of us, while we go about our own lives.
“The mother was coming and going with mouthfuls of worms and bugs like it was the grocery shopping – just in the same way as we do out of our front door just feet away.
“I couldn’t believe how intimate the final shots are and how much colour I was able to capture in them. I was thrilled to be able to show a hidden world of robins that is going on right under our noses.”
