A dog has been transformed by staff at an animal shelter after his coat was so matted it left him unable to see.
The dog, affectionately named Bob Marley due to his fur looking like dreadlocks, was rescued by a Mississippi shelter.
Bob was found in a barn along with another dog, named ‘Rita’ after Bob Marley’s wife, and were taken to Southern Cross Animal Rescue (SCAR) in Laurel.
The little dog was in such a bad state that he could barely see or eat and staff described his smell as being like ‘towels that have been soured for months – only worse.”
Bob was terrified of human contact but was won round by staff who managed to shave his old coat away and give him a new lease of life.
SCAR wrote on Facebook: “The smell was unbelievable.
“Our hearts are broken for these sweet babies.
“The abuse and neglect never seems to end.
“He is scared to death of people but finds comfort in the female he was found with
“She doesn’t look nearly as bad as he does but is still completely matted with very few teeth left.”
Bob and his companion, Rita, have remained together at Park Side animal Hospital, where they are undergoing further health checks.
