Heartbreaking footage from Quebec City, Canada, shows a carriage horse lying on the ground unable to get up after tripping.
Steve Jolicoeur, 45, captured the video near the Chateau Frontenac, where horse drawn carriages are a major tourist attraction.
“The horse stumbled and hit a sidewalk around the Chateau Frontenac, it then fell to the ground,” said Steve.
The horse was unable to get back up on her feet without assistance and remained on the ground for nearly two hours.
A group of citizens, including the horse‘s handlers, tried multiple times to help the mare back to her feet.
“The horse wasn’t able to stand on her own and a team of people tried unsuccessfully to help it up.”
A vet, Vicky Girard, arrived on site to assist with re-hydrating the mare as well as to administer adrenaline.
“Two hours later the veterinarian decided to used medication and the horse was eventually able to stand upright, with a little help from the people.”
Cheers can be heard from concerned onlookers who had gathered around the mare.
It is yet to be specified if and when the mare will return back to work, although local police have confirmed that the horse was not injured in the incident.
