A skydiver has proposed to his girlfriend while they were descending towards the ground from 13,000ft – and was relieved when she said yes and the pair made it back to earth without dropping the ring.
Rahim Hajir, 38, had cooked up the plan to pop the question last week, mid-air, keeping the ring clutched tightly between his teeth the whole time.
Fiancé, Kaitlyn Roule, 27, was none the wiser until Rahim revealed the ring as they plummeted to earth as they leapt from a plane above Idaho.
Rahim admits that taking the ring on the skydive was a risky move and had a backup just in case he dropped it.
The professional skydiver and trainee pilot said: “I wanted the proposal to be out of this world.
“I didn’t want a usual proposal like hiding a ring in a cake or champagne glass.
“I just thought that losing the ring would be a risk I’d have to take and if she’d have said no it would have been so awkward but thank God she said yes.”
Stay-at-home mum Kaitlyn, from Idaho, USA, was completely stunned by the proposal as the pair had never discussed marriage before but didn’t have to think twice about saying yes.
She said: “We have a child together so I thought that was it, I wasn’t expecting a proposal at all because we hadn’t talked about getting engaged.
“We only decided to go last minute that day because it was good weather for it.
“I was so shocked and completely in awe, my heart jumped out of my chest.”
The couple, who met in a bar in Miami have been together for over three years and share a two-year-old daughter, Bella.
Adrenaline junkie Rahim, originally from Iran, introduced Kaitlyn to skydiving not long after they met and it soon became the couple’s favourite hobby.
Kaitlyn said: “Rahim skydives every day for work and I go a couple of times a year with him.
“The first time we went skydiving was just two weeks after we’d met and he never told me that’s what we were doing.
“We just turned up and he told me we were going skydiving and I had to play it cool because we’d just started dating.
“He loves to surprise me.”
