This lucky diver thought she was ticking an item off her bucket list when she got a chance to swim with manatees – only to end up getting a smiling selfie with one of them!
Lushan He, 36, a dive instructor snapped the selfie while swimming with the manatees in the Crystal river, Florida, USA. last week.
It seems like the manatee was friendly and didn’t mind striking a pose for the perfect selfie.
Lushan said: “It was an absolutely amazing experience – the crystal river is the best location for people to swim with manatees.
“We saw more than a hundred manatees around on that day, I was able to find the clear water as well, it was a perfect day.
“I thought it was one of the best days in my life.
“I found that the young manatees are more curious than the older ones so I tried to look for some young ones first, then stay nearby, when one of them wanted to move , I tried to get closer next to it slowly to get its attention.
“During this trip, I got four of them came to hug me, that’s so sweet.
“The best season to swim with manatees in Florida is November to February.
“Because manatees are just like us, they like to stay in warm water in winter- the water temperature in crystal river was about 20-22 degrees.”
