A clever mum has been able to keep up the festive cheer in her home by putting her Christmas tree up – and decorating it for every special occasion – for over a year.
Emma Farmer, 45, put the artificial tree out for Christmas back in 2018 but said that she took such a shining to it she decided to keep it up.
For over a year, Emma, from Thurrock, Essex, has decorated the tree for Valentine’s day, Shrove Tuesday, Mother’s Day, Halloween, as well as countless birthdays and anniversaries.
The mum-of-two said: “I didn’t want to put it away because I love to decorate and I love a theme.
“So, I thought why not keep it up?
“The tree wasn’t getting in anyone’s way and we all really liked it.
“I decided to keep it up for Valentine’s day and decorated it with hearts and roses and then pancake day. It snowballed from there.”
Emma says that so far she has decorated the tree for Valentine’s Day, Shrove Tuesday, Mother’s Day, Easter, her and her husband Jamie’s anniversary, a pirate theme for her children’s and mum’s birthdays and even a summer and Halloween theme.
The decorations for each tree come from whatever Emma has available at home and what she can find cheaply in supermarkets.
She said: “We love the twinkly lights of the Christmas tree and the colours just brighten up the day.
“Whenever someone comes into the house it makes them smile and it’s a lovely talking point.
“When a plumber or an electrician has come into the house they have probably thought that I’m mad.
“They’d say ‘do you realise your Christmas tree is still up’ and I’d have to explain it to them.
Themes for the tree have included a special Halloween tree covered in pumpkins as well as pancake day tree and a rock and roll themed tree to mark the birthday of Emma’s mum.
Emma said that despite people thinking she’s bonkers she loves the tree.
She said: “I think everyone has seen the fun in it.
“I didn’t spend loads on it, a lot of the decorations I had beforehand.
“At the end of the day it’s been a bit of fun that hasn’t been in anyone’s way.”
