Most 16-year-olds unwind from a day at school in front of the TV, or listening to music, but 16-year-old Morgan Matheny is far from ordinary.
In addition to her studies, she is making a name for herself as one of the world’s youngest monster truck drivers.
She spends her free time surrounded by the revving of engines, the smell of petrol and performing death-defying stunts across the United States of America in a mini-monster truck.
The self-described daredevil said: “We do everything the big trucks do including racing and freestyle.
“The trucks are the same as a full-sized truck just half the size.
“The same mechanics, controls, and safety equipment.”
The petrol-headed Floridian has a strong motorsport background been driving for Team Kid KJ since she was nine-years-old.
Before taking to the wheel in the riding dirt bikes since the age of two and racing midgets since she was five.
Miss Matheny drives a 200hp Chevrolet-powered truck named Demolition Diva, which she takes across the country to perform for fans.
On why she started the unusual hobby, which she hopes will lead to a career, she said: “I got into the mini monster trucks because I was looking for something new to try.
“My goal is to hopefully get into a full-sized monster truck soon and continue a career in the business.
“I have high expectations for myself and I believe that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.”
Away from the monster truck arena, she is an honour roll student and part of her school’s basketball team.
The team’s support for her during her fledgling career has been vastly appreciated and she hopes that her success will keep breaking down boundaries for girls in what is a heavily male-dominated domain.
