Skin-crawling footage shows a giant tarantula moulting in its cage.

Michael Edelen filmed his Brazilian giant blonde tarantula as it shed its skin in the New Exotic Reptile Shop/Rescue in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In an arachnophobe’s worst nightmare, the furry eight-legged arachnid almost wriggles its way out of its old exoskeleton.

Having come loose, the tarantula presses the superfluous skin up above itself before tossing it aside.

Michael said: “The process of moulting takes about an hour from what I’ve observed.

“Once they’re done moulting, their new exoskeleton takes a few hours to a day to fully harden.

“These tarantulas can grow up to 7 inches long.”
