A cheeky one-year-old buried her face into a birthday cake at a family photoshoot.
Kate Calvert had gathered her husband and son all together for some lovely pictures celebrating her daughter Henley’s first birthday on August 14.
Sat with her special strawberry-flavoured cake made by a friend, little Henley couldn’t look happier with herself as icing surrounded her face.
Clearly not content with how slow the cake made it into her mouth, the tiny tot went face first into the pink icing, giggling as she did.
Kate, from Kansas City, Missouri, said: “Henley was a delicious mess.
“Luckily there was a fountain nearby so I stripped her down to her diaper and dunked her a few times to get her mildly cleaned off.
We had Sunday dinner with Adam’s family next so we cleaned her as best we could and got her in a backup outfit.
“I haven’t met many foods she doesn’t like just yet, but she absolutely liked the cake.”
The photos were extra special for the family as Henley’s dad Adam had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Ewings Sarcoma just two weeks before she was due to be born.
Despite the diagnosis giving him just a 15% survival chance, after 17 rounds of chemotherapy the 33-year-old was in remission and abdominal surgery removed a lump from his stomach.
Kate said: “The photoshoot was done for Henley’s birthday, but also because we haven’t had family photos done due to Adam’s cancer treatments.
“After Adam found the lump in his stomach, we met with my OBGYN on Monday morning and his oncologist that afternoon.
“Because of the prognosis, same day, we induced Henley to help ensure Adam would be there for her birth and she was born Tuesday.
“We are just so thankful to be where we are right now.
“Yes, it was a rough year with a newborn and my husband fighting for his life, but that made these pictures all the sweeter.”
