A father-to-be allowed his non-tattoo artist wife to tattoo a symbol on his leg as part of their baby gender reveal.
John Henderson, 30, and his wife Brittany, 26, decided that their kitchen table in their home of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, would act as the perfect backdrop for their makeshift tattoo parlour.
Using a tattoo gun from Amazon bought for $60, and having watched two whole tutorial videos on YouTube, Brittany gloved up and proceed to tattoo her hubby.
But despite the screaming and pain, John’s fear quickly turned into unbridled joy the moment he realised that he his baby would be a boy.
John said: “We got the idea from laughing about different stupid gender reveal ideas.
“It started out as a joke. My wife Brittany didn’t want a surprise but I did.
“When brainstorming about how she could reveal the gender to me she said “maybe I could tattoo boy or girl across your stomach” and we laughed. But then I thought “hmmm maybe there is something too that.”
The pair decided the best way for John to learn of his unborn child’s gender would be for it to be permanently tattooed on his leg by his wife, who is definitely not a tattoo artist.
John said: “It wasn’t until the day of that I started to get really nervous. My untrained, non-tattoo artist wife was going to give me a tattoo, so the anxiety in the video is legitimate, I was stressing out.
“My wife and I have a knack for the ridiculous and we tend to take things too far. The tattoo ended up hurting way more than the other tattoos I have. It was pretty brutal.
“It might be because the needle went way too deep or because my fear of doing something so dumb was negating my pain tolerance.”
However, the tattoo that John received wasn’t as simple as just the word ‘boy’ being written on his leg, but instead the roman numerals IX were inscribed into his body.
This is because John is the 8th John Henderson in his family, and his little boy will carry on the legacy and be John the 9th of the family.
John said: “I was really excited that the Tattoo revealed the number IX.
“The first John Henderson is my linage of John Henderson’s goes back to the 1700’s, so there was quite a bit of pressure to have a boy and carry on the name. It was a pretty surreal moment for me.
“I was so pumped that the epic legacy of John Henderson would be carried into a new generation.
“Brittany and I talked like our child would be a boy throughout the whole pregnancy because we just had a ‘feeling’.
“I am super pumped that the ninth John Henderson is coming. Especially as John Henderson is a pretty bland kind of name, so when you add the ninth behind, it makes it sound like royalty.”
With little John the ninth due on October 23, the world doesn’t have to wait very long for a new royal baby.
