A famous Ohio bee removal technician tackles some incredibly large and scary Hornet’s nests as part of his regular working day.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it’s a giant swarm of Hornets! But no need to worry as the state’s very own local hero, Travis Watson – a.k.a The Bee Man – is always ready to save the day.
The 29-year-old bee removal technician isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, and occasionally stung, as he tackles giant hornets nests hidden anywhere and everywhere, including nestled away in some bushes and even in a homeowners garden shed.
And these nests aren’t to be trifled with, as some can grow to monstrous sizes.
Travis said: “A Yellow Jacket or Bald Faced Hornet nest can top out at 5,000 bees during the later part of the season in Ohio.
“With European Hornets, they top out at 800-1,000. The nests can get as large as a beach ball.”
And Travis isn’t over-estimating, as can be seen when Travis dumps a successfully removed giant nest into the back of his truck, giving a closer inspection and clear insight into the ginormous size the nuisance nests can grow to.
“It is exhilarating to tackle a large nest,” he said.
“This job definitely provides a lot of adrenaline and having that many stinging insects try to attack you gets your adrenaline going.”
“It is also quite painful to be stung by a Yellow Jacket or Hornet. I do not get stung often for how many Bees I handle, but sometimes I will make a mistake and they make me pay for it,” Travis continued.
“I also feel accomplished when I am finished because it is nice to take care of such a large problem for a customer. The nests can be very dangerous, so taking away something that is a threat to safety is a great feeling”.
