An airport security guard has been suspended after she allegedly beat two female passengers in a row over toilet paper.
Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency are investigating after footage emerged of guard Ghazala Shaheen apparently pulling the Norwegian women by their hair and lashing out at them.
Haseena Begum and her daughter Fauzia Khalid – who were on their way to Oslo – had complained to an airport official about the lack of toilet paper in the restrooms, triggering the massive row.
This follows the international uproar after passenger David Dao was physically hauled off a United Airlines flight last week suffering a broken nose and concussion.
It has also been reported that immigration officials at the same airport – the Benazir Bhutto International Airport – had assaulted a UK-bound family on April 14.
The video of the incident in Islamabad, Pakistan on April 15, shows Haseena screaming for help in the middle of the crowded airport immigration lounge.
Haseena is heard screaming: “They are beating my daughter. They will kill my daughter.”
The burly female security officer can be seen grabbing the mother and daughter duo by the hair, repeatedly slapping them, and then dragging them towards a security booth.
Shockingly, other passengers and security staff refused to intervene as the scenes unfold.
A security official said: “Fauzia was traumatised. She was lying on the floor outside the departure lounge for a while. She would begin to scream as soon as she saw anyone in uniform”.
Masood Ahmad has lodged a complaint with Pakistan’s overseas ministry claiming that his family was ‘tortured’ and beaten up by immigration officials.
Thankfully, the traumatised duo was allowed to travel after airline personnel intervened.
Later, in an interview with a Pakistani TV channel, Masood’s wife said her family was waiting at the immigration desk when one of the staff heckled her daughter and asked her “Shut up”.
