Animals Video

By Joe McFarlane

A hilarious video shows the surprisingly simple way to hypnotise a chicken – by drawing a line in front of its beak.

Making sure to not distress the bird by not putting it on its back, the video shows Natalie Pearce and family gently handling the chicken before drawing two lines in the dirt in front of her.

Focusing on the lines, the bemused bird doesn’t budge as the family watched on bemused at their farm in Spain, until they clear the line with their hands.

Natalie said: “Normally, it is recommended to attempt to try and hypnotise the chicken while they’re on their back, but this can be considered cruel and may cause the animal harm or distress.

“We show a safe way to hypnotise a chicken.

“We wanted to show the world the safe way it can be done, because all the other videos online suggest unsafe practices“Scientifically it’s referred to as tonic immobility.

“It’s an instinct many animals have in order to trick other animals into thinking that it is dead and unworthy of eating.

“When we successfully hypnotised the chicken, I thought it was weird and perhaps there is something more going on here we have yet to understand.

“But at least now we might be able to study this phenomenon safely.

“Please, if you try this do not distress the animals in any way. Our amusement is not worth their discomfort.”
