A jewellery thief tried to escape police by climbing through a supermarket veg and fruit stall.
Chyenne Horne was in her local Walmart in Pearl, Mississippi, on May 14 around 4.30pm when police raced through in pursuit of a mugger who had stolen from an elderly man.
The 78-year-old had an item of jewellery snatched and the perpetrator took to the local shopping centre in order to evade arrest.
The chase lasted around five minutes in a ‘Benny Hill’ style chase with the mugger circling around the authority.
Fortunately, the thief was caught and detained by police but only after he climbed and destroyed fruit and vegetables in the produce section in spectacular fashion.
Chyenne said: “Once he was spotted by the police, he started running and that is what the chase was all about.
“The pursuit lasted for approximately seven minutes.
“The police were running after him for a while.
“They had a hard time catching him and honestly I believe the thief would have made it out of the store if that customer never tackled him.
“They even ran after him in a full circle and neither one of the police thought to block one side it was pitiful but quite entertaining to watch.”
The suspect has been charged with disorderly conduct in a business, resisting arrest and robbery and is awaiting trial.
