This giant shark-like fish has been rescued after becoming stuck in a draining dry dock.
Rescuers in Cape Town, South Africa, spotted the struggling fish – known as a sunfish – and they needed a crane to make sure the hefty swimmer got back into open water.
Sunfish can weigh in at a whopping 1000kg, making them hard to shift.
Maryke Musson, a representative of Two Oceans Aquarium which rescued the fish, said: “The water level was lowered until staff were able to access the sunfish.
“From there the fish was swum onto a stretcher and the stretcher, supported by a board was hoisted out of the dry dock by the crane.
“Due to the size of the animal, the stretcher was lowered into the harbour area adjacent to the dry dock where staff removed the fish from the stretcher and swam the animal out as far as possible towards the open sea.
“It looked remarkably well considering it had been swimming around the dry dock.
“We believe that the rescue was a great success.”
