An owl swiftly killed a field mouse and then swallowed it whole just outside a family’s patio.
Brenda Ashooh was in the kitchen in her house in Lyme, New Hampshire, on January 25 when the bird of prey landed on the birdhouses support about 20 feet from her window.
For a while the predator looked down at the powder snow that covered the ground, then it suddenly plummeted down to kill the mouse and swallow it whole.
Brenda said: “Despite the fact I live in a rural area, this is the first time I have seen an owl this close.
“The amazing thing about this kill is I never saw the rodent until of course he caught it, it was under the snow probably in tunnels that I do see.
“The owl probably used sound to track it.”
