A dad claims a barbershop left him with a bowl haircut that made him look ‘like Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber’.
Chris Cook wanted to get a trim so he would look smart for work but his usual salon was busy last Friday lunchtime.
Instead he decided to visit Smart Cuts in Cleckheaton, West Yorks, for a short back and sides style.
The former infantry soldier claimed he left after a £10 beard trim and hair cut looking like his hair had been cut using a bowl and posted a furious 36-second video showcasing his Jim Carey-inspired ‘do.
However salon owner Faz, who declined to give his surname, said the style Chris sported in the video is not a short back and sides.
Faz said that any unstyled hair ‘is going to look horrible’ and that if he was unhappy he should have returned to the salon to get the £5 cut rectified.
Chris from Cleckheaton, West Yorks, said: “I woke up cranky on the Saturday morning and when I caught sight of myself in the mirror I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“I had a really long fringe and looked like Lloyd out of Dumb and Dumber.
“I just thought ‘what the hell have they done to my hair? I can’t go out looking like this’.
“It looked like a bowl cut. Once my mum stopped laughing at me I said to her ‘you might as well have put a bowl round my head and saved me £10’.”
Cleaner Chris filmed a video raging about his barnet and posted it on social media. In the video he can be seen holding his phone to his face and lamenting his shorn locks.
In the footage Chris can be heard saying: “Right guys, went down [to] Cleckheaton yesterday for my hair cutting.
“I went down to Smart Cuts, [it] cost me a tenner, look at the state of this.
“Give me a little shave on the beard as well that’s why it was a tenner.
“Look at the state of this. Short back and sides and a trim on the top, that’s all I asked for.
“Now you can see it there, look at the state of that.
“So if you want to look like Lloyd off Dumb and Dumber and pay a tenner for it, get yourself down to Smart Cuts, absolutely garbage.”
Two days later his trained hairdresser aunty Janene Crossley, 47, spent 20 minutes blending the style and Chris said he is now starting to see the funny side of it.
Chris said: “When I first shared the video there was no funny intention, it was just to show people.
“Next thing I know people are commenting and liking it and phone wouldn’t stop pinging for two days, everybody was laughing at it.”
Chris said the hair cut hoo-hah started when he tried a different barbers for the first time.
The dad of two said: “I normally go to a different hairdressers but the one I usually go to was busy and there weren’t a lot of people there.
“I tried this barbershop instead and went in for a short, back and sides.
“I don’t tend to style my hair, I only do that when I go out. I just keep it kept cut short and neat so that it looks good at work and brush it to the side.
“I was in there for about 15 minutes and as he was cutting and shaving round the side of my head he kept brushing it into the style I have, it looked nice and neat.
“When I got home later that day I had a shower and the following day got up early and that’s when I saw what it looked like.
“I just couldn’t believe my hair, they’d messed it up.
“My mum’s not a professional but she could have done a better job with a bowl. I looked an absolute idiot.”
Since posting the video, which has racked up 13,000 views, Chris was stopped by neighbours and pals asking him to reveal his ‘do.
Chris said: “Everywhere I went people were saying ‘show us your head then mate’.
“My aunty is a hairdresser and when she saw the video she had a good laugh about it but said she’d come and sort it out.
“I’ve not complained to the barbers but I won’t be going back there again.”
Smart Cuts owner Faz, who has run the business since 2007, said all his staff are professionally trained and that he was upset by Chris’ claims.
Faz said: “I don’t understand why if he did have a problem, why did he walk out like that from the shop?
“It’s quite upsetting what’s happened but the thing is he shouldn’t have paid us and should have come back. We were there to help him out.
“Either he’s messed his own fringe up or whatever just to put us down for some reason. I just don’t know.
“He’s got it all washed and dried and if you do any haircut like that, the way he has, it’s going to look horrible.
“Any comb over is going to look like that early in the morning if you don’t style it.
“We never do a fringe that short, I don’t know what’s happened.
“We’re experienced barbers, we have loads of customers. It’s not nice putting a small business down.
“I don’t recognise the guy so I haven’t done the haircut. All the lads are qualified, we don’t take trainees on.
“If he didn’t get what he wanted why didn’t he speak then?”
