Feeling a little chilly, deer? This stag looks more than a little wintry as he pops his head up from a mass of bracken in a freezing Richmond park.

Despite being well camouflaged by the frost-covered plants, wildlife photographer Jayne Bond managed to capture the moment the magnificent creature popped his head up – making for a fabulous photograph.

Jayne, a retired assistant headteacher from Poole, Dorset, said: “It was a very cold, frosty morning. There were several stags around, some moving slowly, others laying on the ground.

“This one seemed very settled in the fern, before popping his head out to see what was going on – I think he had been trying to keep warm.

“I set myself a challenge last autumn to photograph the deer in frost or snow – it was definitely worth the 4.30am start to drive from Poole to get there for first light.”
