Prince‘s purple belongings including stage-worn shoes, a well-played piano, mic from the purple rain tour, personalised notes and more are up for auction.

The singer-songwriter’s penchant for purple certainly shows in this catalogue as over 200 items go under the hammer with RR Auction.

The most expensive item listed is a purple piano where Prince spent many hours at the keys, estimated at $50,000 (35kGBP) and originally owned by Earth, Wind and Fire.

His custom-made and well-worn purple high-heeled shoes with large silver ‘love symbol’ charms that he performed in during the 1990s, with an $50,000 (35kGBP) estimate.

The handwritten script with a signed title page for Prince‘s 1986 film Under the Cherry Moon and the stage-used microphone from the second half of the Purple Rain Tour are both estimated at $20,000 (14kGBP)

Other items including his purple pants, the trophy for Best Soul Video, by the American Video awards, a mesh shirt, Parade Era cufflinks, leather gloves, brooch and more.

As well as a personally signed handwritten letter, where Prince responds to a young fan ‘I hope u[sic] Purple Rain’ and ‘But don’t listen 2 the wear words’ estimated at $3k (2.1kGBP).

Bobby Livingston, Executive VP at RR Auction, said: “As historians there is a little material from all periods of his career, you can tell the story of prince through the auction.

“There are things from the seventies right up until his untimely death.

Prince was not that accessible to his fans, even his autographs are pretty rare authentic ones.

“To have handwritten lyrics, the script from Under the Cherry Moon you can see the artist at work and thinking, it’s so fascinating to sell and gives a look into the Prince the creator.

“Another thing, that makes Prince different than most male rock and roll stars of the century was that he metamorphized a lot fo times changes

“His was into fashion was comfortable changing, it’s unique to have his shoes and costumes that tells this other story of him that makes him special.

“There is such an emotional connection with Prince currently, his shocking death still resonates with his fans and the chance to own authentic material is a rare occasion.

“What makes this auction really special is most of the consigners are former employees these items were gifted to them, written to them or kept by them.

“These items were in cabinets but didn’t have an emotional connection to the individuals as he was their boss.

“They were left overs of employment and want to get them into the hands of collectors that will take care of them curate them and ensure they don’t get lost.

“Pieces of jewellery or the mesh shirt, is so small it could easily could have ended up in a thrift store and lost in history.”
