This Brazilian I.T. worker stunned his family – and ENTIRE TOWN – with an incredible, spontaneous opera performance from a top floor balcony.

They say a family BBQ is never complete without great music, but computer technician Giuliano Lemes decided to take that idea to the next level, treating his family and the town of Botafogo, in Rio de Janeiro, to a spur-of-the-moment performance.

Bellowing out a brash baritone, the professional-sounding performer’s voice echoed throughout the entire town, managing to capture the attention of Paula Ferreira, who heard the singer from several hundred meters away.

Clambering to her window to locate the source of the stunning sound, Paula was left amazed, she said, when she saw the distant figure of Giuliano – a man whose identity was only revealed to her several days after her recording.

In the surrounding areas, dozens of her neighbours watched on in similar admiration.

With his first number being met with a rousing applause from all directions, the hobbyist troubadour treated the residence of Botafogo with another song – a version of the Italian classic ‘Oh Sole Mio’, on January 14.

Managing to capture the second rendition on film, Paula believes the unprecedented performance acts as a testament to the soul of Rio de Janeiro.

She said: “I was in my bedroom when I heard what was a recording of an opera song, but when I looked out the window, I suddenly realised it was actually someone signing.

“When he finished [the first song] there was a round of enthusiastic applause and everybody started cheering for an encore.

“Dozens of neighbours were by their windows or standing on their balconies, watching.

“When he came back for the second song a few minutes later, I decided to film it because it was just so cool and unprecedented.

“I’ve actually become friends with Giuliano since sharing the video.

“He told me that his friends [at the party] were insisting on a performance because it’s his party trick, and, as he had already had a few beers, he got carried away and sang from the balcony.

“I just loved it. It was such an unusual scene and a lovely surprise.

“It’s something that really summarises the soul Rio – this light spirit and lust for life.”
