Get your napkins at the ready, because a five-year-old Guinness World Record for the largest Key Lime Pie has been shattered by a group of bonkers festival organizers and their 12-foot masterpiece – which weighed the equivalent of more than five baby elephants.
The seventh Annual Florida Key Lime Pie Festival was marked with an impressive milestone on January 13, when a local bakery in Merritt Island, Florida, turned the state’s official pie into a new world record.
Weighing over 1,220lbs, the crazy cake was comprised of over 180 kilograms of biscuit base and a whopping 360 kg of key lime filling.
The previous record – set in July 2013 – measured at an impressive 8.2 feet, but was eclipsed by this year by the Florida Key Lime Pie Company and their 12.25ft creation.
Once officially measured, the ground-baking pie was demolished by hungry festival goers, who couldn’t wait to get the hands – and mouths – on a slice of history.
