These incredible images were captured as a group of daring explorers slept just meters from the lava of an active volcano.
Amazingly this isn’t the first time that photographer, Christopher Horsley, has slept inside an active volcano.
Christopher took these unbelievable shots while on a trip to Benbow in Vanuatu – a pacific island nation.
While the 25-year-old, who is originally from Liverpool, travels the world taking stunning pictures, he says there’s something about volcanoes that never stops astounding him.
Christopher said: “Already having slept inside two other erupting volcanoes, and knowing the incredible experience of watching molten rock at night, I offered to share the experience with Jack, who’s thrust for extreme rivals my own.
“I started photography on my travels through India. Travelling the world with my camera took me to some beautiful places – even spending three months living with a tribe in Papua New Guinea.
“A chance encounter with Geoff Mackley on a volcano three and a half years ago put me on a whole new course. Now, at 25 I have lead more roped descents to lava lakes than anyone on this planet.
“Volcanoes never cease to amaze me. They have such destructive power, aggression and beauty. A lava lake is like watching a glass bottomed boat, a small porthole into the earth.
“The expedition was lead by Ultimate Volcano Expeditions facilitating for a TV production and a few of our private clients.
“Joining us was Jack Shaffner, 31, USA who is spending his sabbatical traveling the world in search of extreme adventure,”
