Everybody needs good neigh-bours and this horseriding cat is no exception – pairing up with a pony for scenic rides.
They may not be the most obvious equestrian duo but as this hilarious footage shows, Comet the Pony and Louis the cat make the purr-fect pair as they go on treks together near their home in Devon.
The funny video was shot by professional horse trainer, Emma Massingale, who often finds the friends nuzzling up together after a day’s riding.
Emma has had Comet, a five-year-old Connemara Pony, for three years and Louis, a six-year-old Siamese cat, for about a year.
Emma, 35, took the video in woodland around 10 miles from her home in Holsworthy, North Devon.
The footage shows the adorable duo hanging out in the stables before Louis jumps on Comet and the pair head out for a walk.
They can be seen on a leisurely stroll through woodland, crossing a bridge and splashing through a stream before making their way back home.
Emma said: “It all started when I was riding Comet and I would just tap my leg and Louis would jump on.
“Now all I have to do is tap Comet’s back and Louis is straight there. He doesn’t need anymore encouragement than that.
“Louis rides whenever he likes really, sometimes just in the arena sometimes he comes out for a longer wander.
“He is a bit of a fare weather rider though as doesn’t like riding in the rain.
“I often find them nuzzling up together. I think horses like cats because they’re so playful but Comet really likes Louis.
“It’s nice for them to be able to take in the scenery together and Louis is really confident up there.
“When he has had enough he’ll just jump off.
“People often do a double take when they see him out but lots don’t notice him, until he meows.
“I have to watch out for dogs but Louis seems to like to ride so doesn’t jump down when we are out.”
Emma also works with troubled horses and is the first British person to have developed a language that is so well understood by horses that she can communicate with herds at
anyone time and can carry out complex exercises and manoeuvres working as a team.
She added: “I have had horses all my life, my godmother gave me my first pony at six months old, a welsh mountain pony called Minnie.
“Like many young girls I started riding before I could walk.”
