A HORSE has been rescued from a freezing swimming pool after slipping in icy conditions.

Fire crews were able to hoist the animal from the outdoor pool after it became trapped this morning.

They were called to the home in Aldridge, West Midlands, and a specialist rescue team helped pull the horse to safety.

Crews first pumped the water from the pool while they worked to ensure the animal remained calm.

Pictures showed the huge forklift was brought in close to the pool which was still surrounded by a light covering of snow.

Specialist strapping was then tied around the animal so that it could be safety winched out of the pool which measured around 32ft by 16ft.

A vet sedated the horse and remained with it throughout the operation.

Crews left the scene at around 11am.
