A toddler who was not impressed by the introduction of his new baby sister has learnt that having a sibling is not so bad after all.
Taylor Calmus and his wife, welcomed their baby girl, Juniper Bliss, into the world on the September 18 and brought her home to meet her big brother, 19-month-old, Theo.
However the couple didn’t quite expect the reaction they would get with Theo having a tantrum and throwing his toy cars.
Taylor, from Burbank, California, said: “We knew that him meeting his sister would be a very big moment in his life and that it could potentially be hard for him.
“We didn’t take that lightly, I actually kept him away from her until he was in a good mood to try to start them off on the best foot possible.
“That didn’t work though, like most toddlers, he didn’t understand gentle, I had to keep reminding him which slowly built into him getting very upset.”
After slowly being introduced to his sister, Theo eventually came round, giving Juniper, who the family have nicknamed ‘Juno’, his favourite toy car.
Taylor said: “My wife, my sister, and I were all there surrounding the baby when it happened so there was no fear that he was going to hurt her but when he grabbed his car and wound up to throw it, I knew exactly what was happening.
“I wasn’t really scared or upset, I was really just more sad for him.
“This is a huge adjustment for him and he’s too young to understand whats going on.
“We instead removed him from the situation and gave him a chance to cool off then slowly re-introduced him while also giving him the attention he needed.”
