A toddler has destroyed a £1,000 carpet after tipping over a huge pot of white paint.
Jacob Frew, who is just 18 months old, was left alone for no longer than 30 seconds when the disaster occurred last Tuesday (November 7).
His mum, Nicola, 33, found Jacob in the hallway with a huge puddle of white gloss around him, covering his hands and feet.
The mum of one quickly ran Jacob a bath in an attempt to remove the oil based product from his skin.
And after he was clean, Jacob was caught laughing at his mum as she attempting to scrub the floor.
Despite her best efforts she had no choice but to rip up the patch of black carpet – much to Jacob’s entertainment.
Nicola was at her mum, Brenda’s, 51, house when the accident occurred, the pair are now on the hunt for some new laminate flooring.
The teaching assistant, from North Lanarkshire, Scotland, said: “Ironically I’d only left Jacob unattended for 30 seconds as I was trying to tidy up all his toys before my mum came home from work.
“I couldn’t believe he’d managed to create such a disaster in less than one minute, there was gloss paint all over the black carpet, it looked awful.
“I have no idea how Jacob managed to open the paint as it was a new pot and they’re normally always so secure.
“I’m guessing he tipped it up and then fell on his bum as it went all over the floor.
“The first thing I did was put him in the bath as it was gloss.
“It was all over his hands and toes and he still has some in his nails now.
“I did my best to scrub the floor but it was no use, the carpet was completely ruined.
“I rang my mum, Brenda, to warn her of Jacob’s disaster before she came home, she was unimpressed.
“Brenda has now seen the funny side despite it only happening last week.”
Nicola was only staying with her mum for a few days while her own house was redecorated.
She added: “My mum was going to use the gloss to paint her house again in a few weeks but now the flooring needs replacing, she might need to move in with us.
“Jacob isn’t normally a naughty toddler but now he’s walking I’m worried this is just the first of many mischievous antics.
“My mum only opted for black carpet throughout her house costing around £1,000 as she thought it wouldn’t show up any dirt or stains.
“I don’t think she’d ever considered that one day it would be covered in thick white gloss.
“We tried to save it but the more I scrubbed, the worse it looked, there was no salvaging it.
“The missing carpet is right near the front door so it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the house.”
Nicola’s sister, Natalie, 27, filmed the whole ordeal on her phone and now the pair can’t stop laughing.
She said: “I was more concerned about what had just happened but I’m so glad we have the clips from Natalie to look through now.
“Jacob is completely oblivious to what he has just done and can be seeing laughing at us on the stairs.
“He is so cheeky but I wouldn’t have him any other way, it’s safe to say we won’t let him near anymore paint in the future.”
