These young cubs are learning exactly how to fight like lions.
In scenes reminiscent of a boxing match, one lion club smacks his sibling straight across the jaw.
As a swift retaliation, the other cub then catches his head and bites him on the neck in a mock killing of prey.
The young lions were practicing their fights in the Kenyan Masai Mara under the watchful eye of their mother.
They were captured in action by German photographer Ingo Gerlach.
Ingo, 64, said: “It was an early morning in the Masai Mara and the bright red sun had already risen, but was being blocked out by thick clouds.
“I was travelling along in my four-by-four when I discovered a pride of lions with several youngsters.
“The lions were already full and it was mostly the young ones who were dashing around like there was no tomorrow.
“For me it was one of those rare moments I always want to capture on camera.
“It was very exciting to see how the young lions were training under the watchful eye of their mother.
“They were practicing neck bites, attacking from the flanks and lots of other tactics.
“The young lions, all about four or five months old, made an eager impression. They were feisty with the famed lions’ courage.
“The pictures show how rough the young lions can be with each other. In one it even looks like a punch from Vladimir Klitschko.
“But none of the young lions were put off, and after a while the family ran off into a rocky area and I could no longer follow them in the car.”
