This is the appalling moment a newborn boy died moments after an emergency cesarean birth as doctors in an Indian hospital engaged in a 30-minute-long verbal spat.
A video emerged from Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur in Rajasthan in western India, shows doctorsAshok Nainwal and Dr Tak arguing loudly and calling names at each other as Anita Singh, the pregnant woman lies unconscious on the operation table.
When Dr Nainwal, the obstetrician, finally delivered the baby at the hospital-the city’s biggest, it didn’t survive long.
After the video went viral, both the doctors were suspended and an inquiry has been ordered.
Principal of the Umaid Hospital, AL Bhat: “Both doctors have been removed from the duty immediately and disciplinary action will be taken against them.”
The spat is believed to have ensued after Dr Nainwal questioned whether the patient had eaten before the operation and anesthetist Dr Tak tried to have a junior doctor carry out the tests that Dr Nainwal did not agree with.
In the video, Dr Nainwal can be heard saying “stay within your limits”, the other replies, “you will pay for this” to anesthetist.
A nurse and another doctor are seen trying to stop them and remind them that a surgery was on.
The emergency cesarean operation was scheduled because of the feeble heartbeat of the foetus.
Unfortunately, as the senior doctors kept arguing, the newborn, the first child Mrs Singh, 28, died moments after birth.
The Rajasthan High Court has asked for a report on the incident.
State Health Minister, Bansidhar Khandela said: “We are waiting for the findings of an inquiry committee and will definitely take strict action against those guilty. We are yet to know the cause of the death.”
