This greedy gator has been caught on camera biting off way more than it can chew.
The ravenous reptile was snapped gorging on a huge fish but was left red-faced and open-mouthed when it was unable to finish its supper in one bite as planned.
The funny moment was captured by Phil Lanoue, near his home at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
He said: “American alligators do not generally live in salt water but they will visit it in search of food or travelling looking for a new place to live.
“In 10 years of observing and photographing alligators in the wild, this is the largest fish I have ever seen an alligator catch and eat.
“I would estimate the size of this gator to be approximately seven feet in length and he’s probably under ten years old.
“He’s not the biggest boy on the block but if he keeps catching food like this he is well on his way. In their world size is everything.
“The alligator ended up thrashing the fish around in an attempt to turn it into nice bite size pieces.
“I watched him for about an hour and a half before I finally left.”
