A photographer has captured the striking moment a majestic osprey swooped down to catch a fish.
The powerful bird appears to pluck an unlucky trout from the water with ease in the remarkable shots taken by Scottish snapper, Duncan Speirs.
The 53-year-old from Knockentiber was visiting Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park when he witnessed the magnificent bird hunting.
He spent four hours patiently waiting for an osprey to swoop down and was thrilled when everything fell into place.
He said: “It was my third and last chance to capture the image this season.
“Having spent four hours waiting in the morning, I thought it may not happen this time either.
“Near the time to call it a day, the sun broke through the cloud to supply the perfect light.
“The osprey made a pass overhead to check out the prey and then dove into the lochan striking its prey.
“As it lifted out of the water it was coming straight towards me creating the image captured.
“It all happened in a matter of seconds but was well worth all the time and travelling to get it.”
